Job Summary:
The Product Design and Packaging (PDP) Department at Raytheon Technology is looking for a principal E3 Effects Engineer to join our team in Marlborough, MA. PDP is the internal customer facing organization for internal design activities and provides the expertise that optimizes electronic hardware designs for producibility, provides electrical circuit design, strategic procurement relationships, and assembly services through project leadership to achieve cycle time, technology, and cost goals.
The E3 Effects Engineer is responsible for architecture design of electronics from extremely low electromagnetic emissions and high tolerance to external high frequency electromagnetic interferers. Applications include EMSEC and electronic warfare, with emphasis on the design of advanced sensors and effectors or similar applications. Experience in applied methods to control self-interference in high-gain, high-speed, low-noise advanced sensor systems including radar and electro-optic guidance units, the grounding strategies thereof, power distribution, shielding, partitioning and noise-reduction methods. The Engineer has experience in assuring the MIL-STD-464 compliance of architecture, application, and advanced design of electronic subsystems that have successfully achieved high performance in the field.
This position is an onsite role, located in Marlborough, MA.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Contribute to the development of suitable components and sub systems that achieve the performance requirements at the system-level.
Provides technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards E3.
Ensures balance with risk conditions and constraints while advising leadership.
Visible and accountable for technical decisions.
Technical contact with the customer inclusive of requirements, technical commitments, IRAD, future technical needs, etc.
Participate in major review boards such as Engineering Review Board, Failure Review Board, Risk and Opportunity Review Board, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 6 years of experience.
8 years of experience with EMI/EMC analysis design and / or test.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in chosen Engineering/Technical Field
Currently hold a DoD issued security clearance of Secret or higher.
Ability to provide detailed documentation related to test planning, EMI test plans and EMI procedures and test reports with minimal revision and review.
Knowledge of automated EMI test techniques and programming, specifically using EMC32 and TILE.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Must have analytical ability to read and understand complex technical instructions, drawings and specifications and utilize complex equipment or complete experimental procedures.
Strong customer focus with good verbal and written communication skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of MIL-STD-461 test techniques
Knowledge of HEMP/Lightning test techniques
Knowledge of MIL-STD-464 Design Hardening techniques including grounding/ bonding and lightning
Experience with EMI 3D Modelling tools, HFSS, CST Microwave, COMSOL.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
