Description
A funded postdoctoral position is open in the Armbruster Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University to investigate ecology and evolution of opportunistic pathogens in the built environment and in human infections. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic scientist with experience addressing fundamental questions in host-pathogen interactions and/or microbial ecology and evolution. Desired technical experience includes bacterial genetics, genomics, microbiome profiling, and human cell culture. The candidate will investigate how opportunistic pathogens evolve to persist in the built environment and how this evolution impacts downstream host-pathogen interactions in human infections. The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of experimental projects involving polymicrobial communities of bacteria found in potable water systems, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Topics of interest include: experimental evolution of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other opportunistic pathogens in a polymicrobial drinking water biofilm model system, host-pathogen interactions of bacteria with the cystic fibrosis respiratory epithelium, and metagenomics of clinical and environmental specimens.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related field.
