　　Job Summary:

　　An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Francisco J. Asturias, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Asturias group works on cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), biochemical and mechanistic studies of macromolecular complexes involved in various essential cellular processes. This project is focused on characterizing the structure and mechanism of the transcriptional Mediator complex, with emphasis on understanding Mediator's functional interactions with other components of the eukaryotic transcription machinery. Studies will incorporate biochemical, molecular biology and cryo-EM analysis approaches. Postdoctoral Fellows with background in transcription or structural biology (especially cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography) would be particularly well qualified. This position reports directly to Dr. Asturias. The applicant will receive training and acquire expertise in all experimental approaches used in the Asturias lab, particularly cryo-EM.

　　The person in this position must be highly motivated and well-organized, and capable of working both independently and as a member of a research team. They will be expected to interact and collaborate with other members of the Asturias lab and with collaborators at CU Anschutz and beyond. Good troubleshooting skills and ability to interpret, organize, and communicate experimental data are a must.

　　Examples of Duties:

　　Conduct biochemical and structural studies of Mediator. This might include work on mammalian cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9, protein expression/purification, biochemical studies, preparation and automated imaging of cryo-EM specimens, EM image analysis using various software packages, EM map and atomic model refinement.

　　Summarize, interpret and communicate experimental results

　　Writing of scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals

　　Presentation of research at meetings and conferences

　　Initiating and maintaining relationships with collaborators, including coordination of experimental work

　　Minimum Qualifications:

　　Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

　　PhD in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, structural biology (or a related field).Preferred Qualifications:

　　The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

　　$56,484 - $59,592 the salary will be based on NIH Postdoctoral Compensation guidelines
