Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential job duties of the Education and Volunteer Coordinator at the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens are:

Oversee the Certificate in Native Plant Studies educational program as well as other educational programs and events.

Provide leadership for the Gardens’ volunteer program and arrange productive activities for those individuals.

Teach outreach courses on relevant horticultural topics and creates and implements special events which promote the Gardens’ and educates various communities about the natural world around us.

Work to partner with relevant local and regional plant societies and other relevant associations.

Assess the impact of communication efforts and recommends necessary adjustments.

Minimum Experience / Education:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in horticultural/plant science or related field, with at least 3-4 years experience caring for plant materials., and/or teaching plant science.

Experience leading volunteer groups.

Effective teamwork is essential.

An individual that will take action to achieve goals beyond what is required; be proactive.

Attention to detail is essential.
