　　What Your Job Will Be Like:

　　We are seeking outstanding Postdoctoral Appointees with a strong background in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics, cold atom interferometry, and integrated photonics to advance quantum gravity and inertial sensors for national security applications. In addition, successful postdoc appointees may also contribute to other ongoing research projects such as developing an integrated-photonic magnetometer sensor array based on magnetostrictive material, compact & low power fieldable atomic clocks, electric field sensing with Rydberg atoms and spin polarized neutrons, or optical comb development for remote spectroscopy of greenhouse gases.

　　On any given day, you may be called on to:

　　Work with multidisciplinary teams of physicists and engineers to miniaturize and ruggedize quantum sensors and overcome challenges in real-world applications.Conduct fundamental AMO physics research to advance quantum sensing technology.Help build and test sensor systems and components.Construct and conduct experiments.Perform signal processing and data analysis.Attend conferences and meetings.Publish papers on new scientific and engineering results.Assist staff in developing new ideas, research directions, and programs.

　　About Our Team:

　　The Atom-Optic Sensing and Electrochemistry Engineering Department leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions. The department includes a broad set of expertise including atomic physics, micro-optics, x-ray imaging, and electrochemistry/electrodeposition. As part of the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) facility, we provide solutions including atomic physics-based sensors; optically pumped magnetometry, electrometry, neutron imaging for E-fields, atom and ion trapping devices and systems; x-ray phase contrast imaging; critical electrochemical materials processes; and unparalleled micro-machined devices. In addition to work for internal Sandia organizations, we have an established record of successful engagement with external customers.

　　Posting Duration:

　　Position Information:

　　This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.

　　Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
