The Division of Facilities Management - Southern Division
The Division of Facilities Management exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses.
Facilities served: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities in Pueblo, Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Division of Youth Services (DYS) - (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo) and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district.

Description of Job
This position travels to various CDHS locations within the Southern District to install, maintain, alter and/or repair steam equipment and piping (high and low pressure), air piping, steam traps, condensate equipment and piping, gas piping and all facility pumps. Monitor and repair control valves to systems and equipment. Drive to location and install, maintain, and perform emergency repair of plumbing fixtures, water supply valves, hot and cold water piping, sewer drainage piping, all sewer drainage traps, chill water equipment, water softeners, water heaters, kitchen appliances and hydronic pumps. Install, alter and repair hangers, supports and system protection. Calibrate and monitor water temperature mixing valves, high and low pressure gauges of water, steam gas and flow meters.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Position is responsible for performing pipe fitting at a journeyman level, fabricating, welding, planning new or modifying existing installations, including the repair and maintenance of building infrastructure of existing facilities.
All jobs require initial troubleshooting and diagnosis of the problem, safety issues and requirements to resolve and repair the problem.
Perform system analysis of process control valves, perform initial troubleshooting and diagnosis of the problem, determine requirements to resolve and repair the problem.
Typical decisions made are which shutoffs valves to use when repairing process systems. Determine what will be affected, how it will be affected, if the area needs to be sealed off and communicate this information to program staff of the affected area.
Interpretation of blueprints, drawing and developing as-built condition drawings are ongoing on a continual basis. Must be able to clearly and logically draw and annotate field changes conditions on record drawings and documents to include all relevant information for record management purposes.
Determine what is needed and how to repair and/or fabricate piping systems to meet the design requirements in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.
Regularly access piping system conditions and determine the scope of repairs needed. Coordinate and plan repairs.
Install, alter, repair hangers, supports, and system protections for mechanical piping systems. Designs and measures via shop drawings to fabricate piping by means of oxygen acetylene cutting, welding, pipe threading, soldering, caulking of all types of joints and fittings.
Installs, maintains, alters and repairs hot and cold water piping, air piping, high and low pressure steam piping, sewer drainage piping, gas piping, emergency repair of plumbing fixtures, water supply valves, steam traps, all sewer drainage traps.
Monitors and repairs control valves, pumps to systems and equipment of heating, ventilating, air conditioning.
Calibrates and monitors water temperature mixing valves, high and low pressure gages of water, steam gas.
This position will be required to obtain an Asbestos abatement certification within the first year of employment.
Snow removal
Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, in-person, essential position. Shift work may be required. Must be available for and respond to call backs to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner.
Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.
Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift.

Experience Only:
Applicant must have at least three years of experience as it relates to this position (boilermaker, pipe fitter, welding inspector, fabricator, etc.)
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience as it relates to this position equal to three (3) years. You must attach a copy of your transcripts/apprenticeship to this job application. Your unofficial transcripts/certification of completion must include your name, college/school name, type of degree/certification received and date the degree/certification was received/conferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a current, valid welding certification or documentation of previous 6G unlimited pipe thickness. You must attach a copy of your welding certification or documentation to your application.
Conditions of Employment:
A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
Work in a secure facility in locked and unlocked environments.
Possession of a welding certification or documentation of previous 6G unlimited pipe thickness, which is obtained from a formalized training program or apprenticeship program.
Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools and equipment to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.
Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
Must answer to after hours call and respond to call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.
Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to electrical shock, and or working in high exposed places.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
