This is an exempt level position.

Position summary
We are looking for an experienced engineer who will be responsible for assisting with the design, construction, and operation of piloting and lab equipment. These efforts will support the scale-up of new technologies and the scale-down of current production processes for de-risking, optimization, and troubleshooting.
This engineer assist will the design and execution of various piloting projects taking direction from ADM engineers to identify, mitigate, and manage process risks for commercial implementation. This role will work on technology-based projects across ADM’s business units in areas such as chemical, food, nutrition, and bioprocessing. This position will work with cross-functional project teams, including scientists, chemists, engineers, operations and commercial colleagues. The engineer will also work with contractors and external vendors.

Partner with Research engineering teams to understand equipment and piloting needs
Prepare P&IDs, mass and energy balances, size, and scope pilot equipment
Work with external vendors and contractors to specify, purchase, and install equipment.
Commission and operate new and/or modified equipment
Incorporate and implement design of experiments for scale-up and scale-down
Implement and supervise proposed changes in the field and provide support for existing processes
Write detailed reports and prepare comprehensive presentations on experimental results
Coach and teach colleagues that will operate equipment
Skills and proficiencies
A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or equivalent experience is required, with 5+ years of experience in process/pilot operations and design in the food and/or chemical industry
Experience with a range of unit operations, such as filtration, distillation, evaporation, centrifugation, carbon treatment, ion exchange, chromatographic separation, solids handling, and various chemical transformations
Experience in production and/or pilot improvement projects
Experience with evaluating and integrating new technologies into existing production facilities is desired
Be self-motivated and willing to expand process knowledge
Provide clear directions and expectations to team working on projects
Communication skills, both oral and written, and capability to work in various roles on a team
Position Requirements
Must be willing to travel, as travel to multiple locations is expected, as well as willing to switch to a shift schedule, if needed for plant trials
Comfortable managing/participating in various projects concurrently
Must work within established company and laboratory safety guidelines
Willingness to spend time in plant areas, tolerate extreme temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and move through close spaces
