Job Description:This incumbent demonstrates consistent application ofknowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in the execution ofappropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effectivepharmaceutical care. The incumbent participates in many procedural aspects ofpharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or techniciansupervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team.
Schedule8 hour shifts - mostly days, every 4thweek evenings, every other weekend
Scope
1.Assists with all phases of pharmacy services while under the supervision ofa pharmacist.2. Answers phones.3. Prepares and delivers medications for dispensing.4. Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to distribute medications.5. Accurately fills and maintains medications supplies in the automaticdispensing system including verifying and monitoring controlled substanceinventories as required. Packages and labels medications accurately andappropriately to minimize waste. Verifies and monitors controlled substanceinventories as required by daily shift assignment.6. Compounds medications in accordance with state law and policy. Performscalculations as necessary for accurate compounding. Prepares medication orders(i.e., chemotherapy, IV admixtures, compounding) according toestablished policies, procedures, and protocols. Prepares complex sterilecompounded IV products, including daily batch orders, stat and otheremergency medications and TPN formulations.7. Maintains appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.8. Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness.9. Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient informationas required.10. Effectively manages pharmacy inventory to ensure security, accuracy,cost. effectiveness, and 340B/Charging management as required.11. Escalates items to the pharmacist for review as appropriate based onurgency, regulations, and scope.12. Completes advanced tasks consistent with scope as assigned by management.13. Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives. Identifiespotential areas for improvement including processes that could be streamlinedor revised to improve patient satisfaction. Identifies potential safetyhazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff, and takesappropriate actions. Participates in departmental meetings, contributingideas or feedback.14. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides byservice behavior standards.15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
RequiredHigh School or equivalent is requiredPharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through PTCB or EXcPT or othercertifying board andsuccessful registration/certification/licensure withthe state of practice as a Certified PharmacyTechnician (not"in-training" or "provisional") is required Any lapse or failure tomeet these requirements will result in immediate termination At the discretionof the hiring manager,applicants who are not yet certified may be hired asLevel I technicians for a limited time while they are pursing theircertificati
PreferredAssociates or bachelors degree is desirable Technician training is preferredBLSTwo (2) years working as a certified pharmacy tech in a hospital orinfusion pharmacy setting is preferred
