Job Overview
The perfusionist is to maintain adequate circulatory and respiratory support during open-heart surgery. This support includes set-up and operation of the extra-corporeal circuit, set-up, and calibration of physiological monitoring as required for the conduct of perfusion, set-up and operation of autotransfusion equipment, calibration and operation of point-of-care testing equipment, as well as, maintaining proper perfusion records.
Qualifications / Certifications and Licenses required
The perfusionist must be a graduate of a Council on Allied Health Education Administration-approved perfusion training program be certified or certification eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, and be examined within two years of eligibility. If non-certified, the perfusionist must have completed 75 primary cardiac perfusions per year for the last two consecutive years. The perfusionist must complete all orientation programs. The perfusionist must hold a valid license for the practice of perfusion in the state of New Jersey.Essential Functions
The perfusionist is responsible for the set-up and operation of advanced life support systems including: intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices, adult, pediatric, and neonatal ECMO and cardiac laser tech. The perfusionist is also required to be competent to scrub and utilize the blower/mister.
