As a Peer Mentor, you will assist other Lumberjacks in developing the necessary skills for academic and social success by providing guidance and support. The applicant’s passion for assisting students, ability to communicate and dependability are crucial to success in this role. Job Duties
Mentor SFA students by providing personalized support and guidance.
Meet with each mentee a minimum of once per week for one hour.
Increase mentee campus connections through involvement in campus organizations and familiarizing them with campus resources.
Assist students with their personal and academic goals; including but not limited to helping students improve study skills, time management, exploring the importance of campus and community involvement, personal decision making, and conflict resolution skills.
Attend bi-weekly team mentor meetings.
Attend all training sessions as necessary.
Assist in mentee file and record maintenance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Required Qualifications
No direct experience is required. Training will be provided.
• For this student position, applicants must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA and be in their second year or higher at SFA .
• Students must be eligible for work-study.

Preferred Qualifications
Peer Mentors are upperclassmen students with a minimum of a 2.75 GPA who showcase a high level of integrity and commitment to the university and their academic endeavors. As a Peer Mentor, you will be required to meet with each mentee individually once per week for an hour. In addition to the mentoring sessions, Peer Mentors are required to attend monthly socials, as well as bi-weekly team meetings coordinated by the Peer Mentor Coordinator.

Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the Summer, Fall, or Spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the Summer, a student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours total throughout all Summer terms.
