P/T In-House Labor/Employment Attorney (Flexible Schedule)
KQED provides citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories.
We are looking for a part-time labor/employment attorney to support our legal team. We have about 350 regular employees of which 40% are represented by labor unions. Our employees are mostly in California with a few in 7 other states. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of labor/employment legal experience and is looking for a part-time, flexible work schedule. We are based in San Francisco and there may be occasional need to come into the office.. Salary Information: $75.00-$90.00 per hour
Specifics
Hybrid, part-time role. .
Workspace in KQED’s San Francisco office available if desired.
Estimated commitment 5-15 hours per week but may fluctuate depending on business needs
Occasionally may need to meet with managers, union or employees in the San Francisco office.
Duties
Provide advice and counsel to managers on labor and employment issues.
Assist with collective bargaining, including note taking, analysis of union proposals, drafting company proposals, and other support as needed.
Work on projects as assigned.
Serve as additional subject matter expert on KQED’s union contracts and provide guidance to KQED’s managers on compliance issues.
Serve as additional subject matter expert on employment laws for KQED’s human resources department; research additional laws and regulations as applicable.
Provide litigation support for labor and employment claims raised against KQED.
Required Experience
Law degree required; admission in California desired but not required.
5 years of experience in employment and labor law advice and counsel;/litigation experience desired but not required.
Experience working with labor unions and union-represented employees.
Experience conducting workplace investigations
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong understanding of local, state and federal labor and employment laws.
