POSITION SUMMARY The Parts Prepper is responsible for the construction of all workpieces to be utilized in the fabrication of the fire apparatus body. This position operates fabricating machinery such as brake press, shears, and drill press. Parts Prepper must manage the inventory for all material shelves in the department. 2nd Shift Hours are M-TH 4:15pm-2:15am ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS All employees are required to support Rosenbauers Mission, Vision, and Values. The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer. Constructs and manufactures all workpiece parts to be utilized for bodies. Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, and drill presses. Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications. Designs templates from blueprints to streamline construction process. Hammers, chips, and grinds workpiece to cut, bend, and straighten metal. Ensures that all parts and material shelves are filled with inventory and delivers materials to shelves when needed. Follows all workplace rules and safety guidelines and demonstrates safe work practices. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members. WORKING CONDITIONS This position is in a typical shop where different tasks are completed and has access to all welfare facilities. In some cases, the temperature can be warmer or colder depending on the season. There is also constant noise with all the machines that are used inside the shop which will cause a difficulty of hearing. Besides noise, some of the machines produce vibrations when being used. Most of the hazards come from machines but following proper procedures should minimize risk. There is also constant dust and airborne particles due to the heavy machinery, as well as welding tools. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires standing, walking, and the use of hands for the entire shift. It can become very loud in the shop with many machines being used at once. With constant noise, talking or hearing can be difficult. During shifts, some projects require the use of feet, legs, arms, and hands for over 60 minutes at a time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
