  Brief Position Overview

  The Department of Civil Engineering (CE) invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position in construction engineering technology with industry experience in heavy civil construction. The CE Department offers BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and a BS degree in Construction Engineering Technology. The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering ( NACOE ) offers a PhD degree in engineering with a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Applied Mechanics option. Approximately 720 students are enrolled in these programs supported by over 20 full time faculty.

  General Statement

  Faculty for this position will be hired as part of an industry initiative initiated by the Beavers Heavy Civil Construction Association Charitable Trust and local and national heavy civil construction companies. Full-time non-tenure track appointments in the Department of Civil Engineering will have primary responsibilities in teaching and industry service. Successful candidates will become an integral member of the Department, with duties to include teaching courses in the curriculum, contributing to program and curriculum development, and participating in professional/service activities.   Founded in 1893 as a Land Grant University, Montana State University ( MSU ) is composed of eight academic colleges and a graduate school and boasts a friendly, supportive faculty and campus environment. Currently, the University hosts an enrollment of over 16,000 students, including around 2,000 graduate students. MSU is designated as an Carnegie Foundation R1 university for its research activity and is one of only two universities with a very high undergraduate enrollment profile to achieve this designation. Bozeman is an extended community of about 75,000 nestled in the Rocky Mountains in southwest Montana. In addition to providing access to an extraordinary ecosystem for teaching and research programs, Bozeman is renowned for year-round recreational and cultural opportunities including access to world class ski areas, three blue-ribbon trout rivers and the Gallatin National Forest. The city boasts high quality medical facilities, a very low crime rate, many fine restaurants, acclaimed public and private schools, a symphony orchestra and choir, an annual opera, and nationally known events such as the Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts held in early August of each year. The K-12 educational system, growing reputation of Montana State University, and pristine natural environment of the area combine to make Bozeman one of America’s most desirable university towns. The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is served by 8 national airlines and is the busiest airport in the state.

  Duties and Responsibilities

  Contribute to construction engineering technology undergraduate instruction, mentoring, and advising;

  Participate in professional/service/outreach activities

  Contribute to the Department

  Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Bachelor degree, (or higher) in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.

  Significant industry experience in the broad area of heavy civil construction.

  Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.

  Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Experience in the development of construction industry professionals.

  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with industry.

  Demonstrated ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Construction Engineering Technology program.

  The Successful Candidate Will

  The Successful Candidate will be an effective communicator who has demonstrated:

  Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  The ability to inspire and mentor students.

  The ability to develop and teach multiple courses in heavy civil construction and contribute to the construction engineering technology program.

  Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.
