Job Position: Parks & Recreation Maintenance Specialist
Department: Parks, Recreation, and Community Events
Classification: Full-Time; health, dental, and vision insurance, enrollment in URS, vacation and
sick leave benefits.
Hiring Range: $18.00-$22.00/hour based on experience and/or related education
Supervision: Reports to Crew Lead.
Distinguishing Features of the Position:
Provides routine work in the care and maintenance of Harrisville Parks, including seasonal
maintenance of the city water park. Work consists of operating various large and small pieces of
equipment. Supervise recreation staff.
Functions and Duties:
•
Performs daily and routine maintenance for city parks and grounds; including mowing
lawns, sprinkler repairs, irrigating/watering lawns, trimming, hand labor, general
landscaping, and painting. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours.
•
Responsible for operating, driving and maintaining equipment such as back hoe, vehicles, ride-on lawn mowers, 4-wheeler, RTV side-by-side, push mowers, trimmers, etc.
•
Assists in maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
•
Assists with special events and activities.
•
Maintains and operates the water park; including proper use of chemicals.
•
Applies chemicals including herbicides and pesticides.
•
Works with chemicals including Chlorine, Bromine, Sulfuric Acid and Muriatic Acid.
•
Works in hazardous conditions.
•
Assists with snow removal.
•
Assist with recreation youth sports and supervision of youth staff during evening games. (May require evening hours May 1 through June 30.)
•
Must have good communication skills and be able to communicate with others.
•
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Certifications:
o
High School Diploma or equivalent.
o
Six months of construction, landscape, or aquatic experience or any equivalent
combination of experience and training.
o
Must acquire and maintain Certified Pool Operators Certificate through Weber/Morgan
Health Department within one year of hire date.
o
Must be able to follow directions.
o
Must be able to work independently on projects.
o
Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather
conditions and moving/mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is usually high. The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, see, stand, walk, lift, use hands/fingers, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities require close vision and distance vision.
