PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, identification verification, processing and preparing of fecal samples.

SHIFT: Monday -Saturday. 7am-430pm

PAY:16.78

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. Collect fecal specimens from login, scan into loads, and prepare for set up.

Set up para loads at a rate of 75/hour and Fcombo set up at a rate of 65/hour.

Accurately label processing tubes when building loads.

Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.

Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.

Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.

Dispose of old fecal specimens.

Library all samples.

Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.

Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.

Awareness of quality control and calibration.

Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.

Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.

Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.

Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.

Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.

Performs other duties as assigned.

E DUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent, prior/some lab experience preferred and/or 2, 3 or 4 year degree in Science-related field.REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred but not required.

Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.

General science background
