Minimum Starting Salary:
Paralegal I: $24.16 to $30.80 per hour, depending on qualifications
Paralegal II: $25.60 - $32.65 per hour, depending on qualifications
Nature of Work:
Performs paraprofessional, legal support services for attorneys in the Criminal Justice Section of the City Attorney’s Office. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of specialized tasks including, but not limited to maintaining the City Prosecutor’s docket, legal research, general administrative work, and the preparation of legal documents such as criminal informations, discovery responses, and final dispositions. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines is needed. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters. Work is reviewed through observation, conversation and evaluation of results achieved. Preferred candidate will have three plus years of recent experience working for a prosecutor’s office or criminal defense firm.
Minimum Requirements
Paralegal I: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, or other closely related field and two years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, one of which must have been as a paralegal; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to type at least 35 word per minute. Must pass criminal background investigation including polygraph.
Paralegal II: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, or other closely related field and three years of relevant experience as a paralegal; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate the ability to type at least 35 word per minute. Must pass criminal background investigation including polygraph.
TYPING TEST
Tests are administered by invitation only.
Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited via email. Invitations will be sent to the email address listed on the application.
Applicants will have (3) three days from the date of the invitation to complete the test. Tests may be completed virtually or onsite.
Applicants are allowed one opportunity to pass the typing test within a posting period or any given 30 days. Scores are valid for one year
