SUMMARYPreps and sprays surfaces of manufactured products with protective or decorative material, such as paint, enamel, or lacquer, using spray gun.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans grease and dirt from product, using materials, such as lacquer thinner, turpentine, soap, and water.
Perform preparation work prior to painting such as grinding, sanding, buffing and applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
Mix paints per paint codes.
Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color, according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer.
Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose, using wrenches.
Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray according to knowledge of painting technique.
Pulls trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer, using brush.
Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
May use solvents, wire brush, or steel wool to remove rust from metal.
Finishes surfaces by polishing with sandpaper, wax or other materials.
Maintains clean and safe work environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to read a tape measure and blue prints
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESPaint experience a plus. General knowledge and awareness of assembly process and procedures.
