  DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an intern, you will support the Technical Services Division by actively participating in field work and conducting various studies. The primary focus of your work will be on the reclamation of abandoned mine lands in Pennsylvania. You will work closely with biologists, geologists, and engineers to compile comprehensive reports based on field investigations. These reports will include detailed information such as map locations, site conditions, impacts, extent of problems, mining data, and other relevant information gathered through field measurements. Additionally, you will assist the staff in conducting wetlands delineations and preparing reports. This process may involve collecting samples of soil, plants, and hydrology. Furthermore, you will provide valuable assistance to the technical staff in developing reclamation plans specifically targeting acid mine drainage and surface reclamation. Lastly, this role will actively participate in field investigations related to abandon mine issues at various abandoned mine sites.

  Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  Full-time employmentThe employment period will occur between the dates of 5/1/24 - 8/30/24.Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.Telework: Interns will have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time on a schedule that aligns with their supervisor, so they are in the office on the same days.  No full time telework will be approved.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.  If you are unable to telework, you must report to the office.Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.You will receive further communication regarding this position via email.   Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:GeologyBiologyAn approved major course of study at an accredited college or universityFreshman year completedGood academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

  Additional Requirements:This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.You must be able to perform essential job functions.
