PenFed is hiring a Vice President, Card Product and Strategy to work onsite at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this position is to drive business strategies for PenFed’s card portfolio to maximize portfolio growth, utilization, and balances. The incumbent will coordinate across stakeholders including marketing, credit, legal, operations, compliance decision science and external vendors to develop and execute strategies that grows new account acquisition and existing cardholder engagement while maximizing profitability. This position will place emphasis on coordinating marketing strategy, credit risk management, new product/offer development, targeted offer segmentation, performance assessment, financial analysis leveraging internal and external sources. This position requires a strong card product knowledge and analytical background, which brings problem solving skills and innovative thinking that will lead to strategic insights to foster card portfolio growth and profitability.

Lead the development of new card originations strategies and marketing optimization across direct mail, digital, branch, and call centers. Responsible for making recommendations on targeted acquisition segmentation, product offering optimization, risk/marketing eligibility criteria, and pricing strategies.
Oversee existing credit and debit card accounts engagement analytics, including early month-on-book (EMOB) plastic/purchase activation, customer loyalty and rewards strategies, inactive/dormant reactivation, and retention.
Responsible for growing portfolio balances, revenue, and profitability on legacy and existing accounts.
Conduct business analysis through customers behavioral (revolver/transactor/dormant) and demographics, credit risk attributes, and other internal/external data elements, to identify of 1) segments with high growth potential & profitable prospects, and 2) segments that are underperforming, provide recommendations to optimize marketable universe, targeted product offering, and marketing investments, then regularly present key findings, and recommendations to senior management.
Partner with the marketing team to continue to enhance effective test and learn opportunities, design the appropriate marketing campaign test, and offer plan that would significantly increase card usage across all phases of card holder lifecycle, including acquisition, usage, and retention.
Coordinate with credit risk management to support developing the card product specific credit policy (approve/decline and line assignment) for both targeted and untargeted prospects, providing the full P&L analysis based on projected risk mitigation and market/revenue growth.
Support member and non-member campaign performance evaluations across all existing and prospect touchpoints, including direct mail, digital, call center, and branches.
Assist the evaluation and implementation of targeted statistical models built by modeling team and/or vendors into campaign test design, measure model performance scorecards used in card marketing analytics and make recommendations.
Partner with Consumer Banking Finance and Fusion Cell teams to continue to refine sophisticated financial analysis and profitability models to assess performance across card risk segments, vintages, origination channel, and products.
Interpret analytic findings and formulate recommendations to share with key decision makers. Clearly articulate findings and observations and make recommendations as appropriate.
Regularly partner with Marketing, Operations, Credit Risk, Finance, and external vendors as appropriate.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
15 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 10 years of work experience with a PhD, required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of working experience with a major card portfolio is required.
Minimum of four (4) years of working experience relating to card marketing analytics or acquisition or existing cardholder management is required. Such experience includes but not limited to marketing analytics, credit risk analytics, portfolio performance evaluation, new product development, industry/competitive benchmarking study within a financial services environment.
Minimum of five (5) years of direct management experience.
Hands-on skills with Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, and proficiency working with large dataset are required.
Statistical analysis experience, including A/B testing, linear regression, and time series forecasting are preferred.
Knowledge and experience in design of experiments, statistical procedures, predictive modeling, financial modeling and analytic tools are preferred.
Proven project management and executive presentation skills is required.
Experienced card product leader with a record of accomplishment for delivering quick results and success.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to explain complex business concepts to broad audiences in an engaging way.
Must be self-motivated and comfortable with ambiguity, possessing the maturity and competence to influence across multiple levels and organizations including internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent group presentation skills. Executive presence, and comfortable presenting with the C-suite.
Demonstrated thought leadership and the aptitude to challenge the status quo and identify new opportunities to innovate and differentiate.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will supervise five to ten exempt employees.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Ability to travel to various worksites, conference and trade shows and be on-call, as required.
