Job Summary
The Occupational Health Physical Therapist Assistant ("Assistant"),under direct supervision, assist physical therapists in providing physicaltherapy treatments and procedures. May, in accordance with state laws,assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions,document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments inaccordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plansestablished by a physical therapist.
Essential Functions:Patient CareAssists Physical Therapists in performing rehabilitative treatment proceduresand techniques. Monitors patient's response to treatment is closelymonitored and assessed. Assist patients to dress, undress, or put on andremove supportive devices, such as braces, splints, or slings.Recommended changes and upgrades are communicated to the primary therapist.(50Pre TreatmentCollaborates with appropriate parties to coordinate patient treatmentauthorization. Receives authorization prior to treatment and treatment willcommence as outlined by the insurance carrier. (15%)DocumentationComplete patient care documentation recording the prognosis, treatment,response, and progress in patient's chart. Update medical recordsaccording to prescribed departmental standards. Complete appropriate databases, problem lists, treatment goals and individualized plan of care.Completes patient charges per department guidelines. (15%)DischargeDischarges patient from physical therapy, provide home-care instructions,provide referrals (10%)Equipment MaintenanceMonitor operation of equipment and record use of equipment and administrationof treatment. (5%)EducationMay assist in orientating and training new employees, PT-student, hospitalstaff, and precepts new employees during orientation. Trains and educatespatients, family members and care-givers in therapy principles, methodsand techniques in order to achieve intended outcomes. (5%)
Education:Associate's Degree, Physical Therapy Assistant Program required.
Work Experience:1-3 years' experience required.
Licenses:BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required.PTA-Physical Therapist Assistant - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agenciesrequired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Assisting and Caring for Others- Providing personal assistance, medicalattention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such ascoworkers, customers, or patients.Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculumand training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups,and the measurement of training effects.Problem solving - the ability to systematically analyze problems, drawrelevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action.Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits ofpotential actions to choose the most appropriate one.Knowledge of theory, principles and practice of physical therapy.Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths andweaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying,taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions asappropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Knowledge of safety principles in patient care environment.Knowledge of standards, polices and procedures of Denver Health as theypertain to physical ther py.Ability to integrate requirements of the facility and/or regulatory agenciesinto clinical decisions and documentation.
