  About this unit

  5 North is a 38-bed unit caring for a wide variety of medical, surgical, and chronically ill patients.  The unit specializes in the care of diabetes (insulin drips) and renal failure (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis).  The unit can accommodate patients who need telemetry (monitored remotely) and oximetry.  The patient/nurse ratio is adjusted based on acuity.  Our nurse’s partner with universities to help student nurses succeed through precepting, support, and role modeling.  Our goal is to provide all patients the highest quality health care services that are delivered efficiently, effectively, and compassionately while welcoming their families.

This hospital has grown in size and capabilities over the decades to become a Level II trauma center, serving the community since 1965. It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University.

  Scope of work

  Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.

  Qualifications

  High school graduate or equivalent

  Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred

  American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required

  Current CNA certification preferred

  Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.

  Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

  Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.

  Basic computer knowledge is preferred.

  Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.

  Ability to demonstrate Corewell customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance
