Responsibilities
The Nurse Supervisor – Wound Ostomy supervises the day-to-day clinical operation of Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) work unit providing guidance and support to the clinical and support staff to ensure that quality patient or client focused care is delivered. When appropriate, the Nurse Supervisor provides professional patient care utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with the patient, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team. This individual may assist in high-risk procedures demonstrating knowledge of advanced pathophysiology, human responses to health problems and non-disease based etiologies to assess, plan and coordinate care. The Nurse Supervisor coordinates all care activities for the work unit for day-to-day operations and responsible to resolve issues for the patient, family, and physicians. In addition, the individual supports leadership through activities that include hiring and development of staff, teaching, community involvement, participation in committees and research (as applicable). The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice and the Scope and Standards for Wound, Ostomy and Continence Specialty Practice Nursing provide a basis for the practice of the WON.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Holders of F1 status eligible for post-completion OPT are welcome to apply. This role is NOT eligible to participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing degree program. Masters preferred. Minimum of 2 years of nursing practice or progressive leadership experience required. Demonstrated leadership ability and interpersonal effectiveness required. Strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, and computer skills required.
Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing (WOCN) Certification preferred.
License or Certification
Current state RN license deemed acceptable by the State Board of Nursing in which the RN practices. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
WON Certification within 18 months employment in the position.
