  The Nurse Practitioner will help evaluate and coordinate care of children with liver disease and intestinal failure, with the opportunity to see patients independently. Facilitate with our hepatologist the management of parenteral nutrition and follow-up of labs drawn on these patients. Our division consists of 7 clinician-educators who see patients across the city of Houston. The NP will be based only at the pediatric clinic UT Clinical building. She/he will also work alongside 6 fellows who are learning to practice pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology, so there is an opportunity to teach. We interact almost daily with pediatric transplant surgeons, radiologists, and nurses/technicians in our Children’s Memorial Hermann Endoscopy Suite.

  Position Location:

  UTHealth Houston: Pediatrics Gastroenterology

  6431 Fannin Street , Houston, TX 77030

  Schedule: Full Time

  (6 half-days of clinic alongside our Hepatologist, 4 half-days to include response to labs & phone calls, divisional meetings, QI meetings, and patient care conferences)

  Position Key Accountabilities:

  Performs relevant patient assessments and physical examinations.

  Coordinates, directs, and implements patient’s plan of care.

  Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.

  Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals.

  Formulates, implements, and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan.

  Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes.

  Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.

  Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient’s recovery.

  Other duties as assigned.

  Certification/Skills:

  Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse

  Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP, and specialty certification as required by department

  Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified

  Minimum Education:

  Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

  Minimum Experience:

  None

  Physical Requirements:

  Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
