Become a Nuclear Safety Officer at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role as a Nuclear Safety Officer (NSO1), your primary mission is to protect the health and safety of the public by preventing acts of radiological sabotage. NSO1’s are responsible for performing armed tactical response and emergency response duties, performing patrols on foot and in vehicles, conducting vehicle, cargo, and personnel searches, and providing excellent customer service while supporting installation work activities. This position will report to one of 5 Security Shift Supervisors.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!
Participating in periodic emergency drill and/or training in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements.
Performing continuous surveillance of Protected Area (PA) barrier intrusion detection segments and periodic checks and surveillances of the PA fences, gates, and other access points.
Performing security computer system functions in the Central Alarm Station (CAS) to monitor, maintain, and document positive access control of all PA entries and exits and dispatch alarm assessors to investigate unauthorized attempts or actual entries and exits as required.
Responding to and assessing PA portal and gate alarms from any location in the PA within the prescribed time limit.
Performing security PA entry searches of all personnel and hand-carried items, all vehicles and cargo, and packages and material to detect prohibited and or contraband items.
Escorting vehicles in the PA/OCA in accordance with NRC requirements.
Processing visitors and escorts for access to the PA and other controlled access areas.
Performing a range of duties associated with providing compensatory measures for temporarily degraded security systems or programs to maintain compliance with applicable licensing requirements.
Performing nuclear Emergency Response Personnel duties as assigned and in accordance with the ISFSI Only Emergency Plan.
Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Qualifications
The essentials
Valid U.S. Driver’s License, be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED.
Three (3) years active-duty experience in the U.S Military, Active Law Enforcement, Private Armed Guard Security or have completed an accredited Law Enforcement/Military Academy.
Experience working with firearms, ammunition, optics and related security equipment.
Ability to work any shift and work overtime as required to support 24-hour operations.
The preferred
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Experience analyzing information and making sound decisions.
Experience in nuclear security

10CFR73.55, Appendix B requires candidates for this position to successfully complete firearms qualification, a physical fitness test and psychological evaluation.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work.
Must not have any felony convictions involving the use of a weapon or that reflect on the individual’s trustworthiness or reliability.
Must not have any misdemeanor convictions of domestic violence nor any restraining orders that would preclude the candidate from carrying a firearm.
Will be required to complete a “qualification inquiry” indicating they have not been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
Required to maintain access to the SONGS protected Area and Safeguards Information.
