Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Materials Design Technical Staff to work on our Irradiated Fuels and Materials team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

　　The Nuclear Materials Design staff will join the on-going and future efforts in the Nuclear Materials Department with a focus on supporting the DOE Advanced Reactor Development (ART) graphite program. The ART graphite program is a mature DOE funded program conducting one of the largest nuclear graphite unirradiated and irradiated testing programs in the world.

　　Responsibilities Include:

　　Conduct experimental research and development activities supporting the deliverables of the DOE Advanced Reactor Development (ART) graphite program.Publishing in peer-reviewed journals, participating on national & international committees, and contribution to proposal preparation.Identify and oversee accomplishment of milestones, notable outcomes, and other performance metrics. Take actions with performing organizations to ensure work is accomplished within budget, schedule and quality assurance requirements. Ensure deliverables meet expectations.Write scientific manuscripts for journal publication, and present research results at national and international conferences and meetings.*Minimum Requirements: * * Requires PhD in materials science * Demonstrated outstanding ability to conduct research and have proposed experimental or theoretical projects that advance the Laboratory’s nuclear science mission. * Knowledge of fabrication, characterization, fracture analysis, and mechanical testing experience with ceramic (specifically nuclear-based) materials is preferred. * Experience in use of mechanical load frames to conduct mechanical strength testing is essential. * Additional experience in conducting high temperature mechanical testing to assess fracture behavior of graphite components within a High Temperature Reactor (HTR) design would be advantageous. * General experience in characterization techniques utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), digital image correlation (DIC), focused ion beam (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are desirable. * Experience analyzing and modeling experimental results is required. * Prior publications in high impact journals with respect to materials science, characterization and nuclear applications. * Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. * Strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both independently and as a team member. * Self-motivated, but also work collaboratively with peers and multi-disciplinary teams
