Position Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, MRI Technologist II performs a wide variety of technical procedures utilizing magnetic resonance imaging to obtain computer-processed images of designated portions of the body.
Responsibilities
Ensures patient safety by screening for medical conditions, allergy history and foreign objects such as metal implants, pacemakers, aneurysm clips, hearing aids and shrapnelConfirms the appropriateness of the exam by reviewing the referral form and radiologist protocol and patient questionnaire; brings any discrepancy to the attention of the radiologistEnsures patient and equipment safety by following the MRI safety policy and procedureAssist in education and supervision of MR scanner operationsAssist in new MR protocol implementationsEngage with advanced imaging techniques for clinical and research scansPerforms scans following standardized protocols, tailoring if needed due to patient variable such as body habitusMaintains and retrieves patient data by appropriate use of PACS and other information systems; generates hard copies when appropriateMaintains log books and machine performance dataAssists in the administering of first aid as neededDisplays courtesy and respect to all patients, medical staff, visitors and co-workersMaintains cleanliness and orderliness of the work area and equipmentAssists in expediting patient flow while maintaining qualityCompetent to care for patients based upon the age groups treatedCompetent to administer contrast media via appropriate peripheral IV access as ordered and directed by qualified physician staff while abiding by NY state guidelines (if appropriately certified)Participates along with nursing in monitoring patients pre, during and post contrast administration for possible allergic reaction to contrast mediaPerforms other related duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
Four years of MRI experienceNew York State Licensed X-Ray Technologist by the Department of Health. Registered X-Ray Technologist by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)ARMRIT/ARRT MRI certificationNew York State license to inject contrastPreferred Qualifications
NYS license to inject contrast preferred.Must have the ability to perform work in a neat, orderly and safe manner with full knowledge of MR safety and ability to enforce safety regulations is required.
