Job Summary: The MFIP/SNAP Job Counselor (Public Support Program Specialist) is responsible for providing vocational and employment services to assist individuals who are eligible for public assistance (MFIP, DWP or SNAP) employment services in obtaining and retaining employment. In addition, the Public Support Program Specialist provides client assessment, job search and employment plan development, case management, support group facilitation, vocational counseling, information referral, and follow-up on each individual. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides orientation, Employment Services overview and program enrollment to MFIP, DWP and SNAP participants. Prepares and maintains an individual employment plan for clients based on psychological tests, educational attainment, physical capacities and previous employment history. Determines and authorizes for community supports to aid employability. Establishes links with the employment and educational communities and supports relationships with key service providers (county social service personnel, WorkForce Center Partners, higher education institutions, ABE, GED, ESL) to enhance the services provided to clients. Monitors individual progress and notifies the county of non-compliance. Maintains all pertinent records. At times may need to develop and coordinate work experience assignments with work sites. Works with clients individually or in groups on retention issues. Conducts job search classes and jobs clubs to assist participants in finding appropriate job opportunities. Attends meetings, seminars and conferences related to employment programs to stay informed about program changes.
