This includes assisting with crisis management, therapeutic programming and milieu management as member of the Mental Health Care team. This role is instrumental in addressing emergent and urgent issues as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Completion of a post-secondary education program in behavioral sciences OR completion of one year of a post-secondary education in behavioral sciences or health care field OR has at least 1 year of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness OR 1 year of similar related health care experience as applicable. Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Current CPR/BLS certification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skilled in establishing good interpersonal relationships Customer service skills Has a knowledge of the psychological principles of behavior Able to plan and facilitate therapeutic groups. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills Able to establish effective relationships with health care team members. Able to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Able to work independently PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Associate or Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from a college or university. Experience with planning and facilitation strongly preferred. Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: None Essential Duties: % Of Time (minimum 5% increments) 1. Milieu Management and Communication 60% Assists with patient care and ADL's, collects routine patient specimens, and collecting patient data including TPR, weights, calorie counts, etc. Daily monitoring of patients includes for continued stay criteria, suicidality, fall risk, medical concerns, and medication education. Assist care team to proactively prevent/reduce triggers that re-creates patient stress. Assists in the assessment, planning and implementation of therapeutic interventions and evaluation of patient responses. Verbally reports patient status and changing patient condition to the RN/ team members during shift. Facilitates/Co-facilitates therapeutic intervention through structured activities, education or 1:1 as determined by patient/unit milieu need. Meets patient/unit needs by utilizing time effectively in prioritizing patient/unit activities. Accurately and comprehensively documents all patient services. Documents according to department documentation policies: completing assessments, transfer notes accurately as appropriate, completing flow sheets accurately, using approved abbreviations, and writing legibly. Completes Mental Health Flow Sheet daily. 2. Patient and Family Education and Activities 10% Collaborates with mental health care team in providing mental health education groups, including but not limited to, Community groups, Goal Setting groups and Health and Wellness groups and leads groups as appropriate. Leads leisure group activities (games, etc.) and exercise groups Promotes patient participation in his/her own care to the greatest possible extent. Develops and teaches strategies to promote patient health and wellness based on wellness needs, nutrition, diet and exercise. Documentation of each group to include: goal, activity, dynamics, patient response, mental status, symptoms and participation. 3. Crisis Management 25% Prioritize patient needs to add ess emergent and urgent issues Handles crisis situations by using sound judgment, critical thinking skills and verbal de-escalation/physical intervention techniques. Identifies and refers patient to RN for emergency psychiatric treatment, medical treatment if needed. Collaborates with RN and care team when unusual incidents or changes occur in patient's condition. De-escalate violent or suicidal patients verbally or by physical means as required. Performs with the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) as necessary. Safety precautions are consistently utilized when providing patient care. 4.
