　　Position Summary:

　　Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.

　　Reports to:Laboratory Director

　　_Responsibilities of the Position_

　　Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusionsOperates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory supervisors or director.Performs phlebotomy procedures in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.Assists with all general clerical work such as QC, QA, and answering phones, and looking up reports.Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.Reviews, approves, and maintains all patient and QC results on a daily basis.Assists in developing and maintaining procedure manuals.Accurately registers client samples, results with comments, order tests, cancel and add tests as required.Works unsupervised and uses good judgment to make independent decisions in any department assigned to.Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in assigned departments.Assists in evaluating new laboratory equipment and problem laboratory procedures.Assists in training new employees on laboratory policies and procedures.Minimum Education

　　Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technologist or Clinical Lab Scientist is required.

　　Master's degree is preferred.

　　Licenses: ASCP or comparable National certification is required or must be eligible and will obtain license within 6 months of hire.

　　Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved American Heart Association training center is required at hire or within 30 days of hire.

　　Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

　　Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

　　Must have the ability to verbally communicate well, must possess an appropriate manner and conduct, with ability to get along well with people.

　　Hand-eye coordination to perform tasks such as keyboard skills, invasive procedures, etc.

　　Constantly required to concentrate on fine details with constant interruption. Constantly required to attend to a task/function for more than 60 minutes at a time.

　　Constantly required to understand and relate to specific ideas generated several at a time.

　　Constantly required to remember task/assignment at beginning of a period of time extending several days.

　　Minimum Work Experience

　　One year of experience as a clinical laboratory as a technologist, hospital environment is needed.

　　For third shift, at least three years of experience is preferred.
