About Medical Records Librarian

  The Department of Mental Health (DMH) at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual who will serve as a Medical Records Librarian. The selected candidate will ensure that medical records data is accessible for staff use through evaluation of medical records filing systems including but not limited to, the design and/or improvement upon the medical records system, coding medical records and ensuring proper filing of medical record folders. * Please Note* : 37.50 hours a week positions. First shift, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday off. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Performs and provides quantitative analysis of medical records for compliance with DMH and WRCH policies. * Assists with determining the methods and techniques used for maintaining and preserving medical records through the record management system in use and evaluating the system for completeness and efficiency. * Reviews and processed the release of medical records information in compliance with applicable HIPPA regulations, DMH, accreditation and certification requirements. * Completes paper and electronic documentation record audits and recommend corrective action for findings; assists with coding and abstraction. * Compiles and disseminates statistical information concerning medical records and registration data; completes special research projects as needed. * Utilizes reference materials appropriately and efficiently to improve knowledge and understanding of processes related to health information systems and regulations. * Assists with other medical record department functions including census reconciliation, data entry, record analysis, diagnosis coding, filing and retrieving records, managing supplies and mail distribution. _ Required Qualifications:_ * Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of medical records management, including the types and applications of medical records filing systems. * Familiarity with the numeric and alphabetic filing systems used in medical records work. * Acquaintance with the terminology, coding, symbols and standard abbreviations used in medical records work. * Ability to gather information by examining records and documents and work accurately with the information and/or through questioning of individuals. * Capacity to utilize computer skills and understanding their usage in a medical records department. * Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others. * Skilled in exercising discretion in handling confidential information. _ Preferred Qualifications:_ * Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) * Ability to work well withdiverse populations in diverse settings in a manner that builds trust and supports increased collaboration and partnership. * Proficiency with software applications such as Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database management software. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):_ Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations. WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults and 30 adolescents, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service program for 10 patients. _ DMH Mission Statement:_ The Department of Mental Health assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities. Substitutions: I. Registration as a Registered Record Librarian (RRL) by the American Medical Record Association may be substituted for the required experience. II. Registration as an Accredited Record Technician (ART) by the American Medical Record Association may be substituted for one year of the required experience. III. Official certification or proof of successful completion of the American Medical Record Association independent home study course in medical record technology may be substituted for one year of the required experience. IV. Successfully completed education toward a degree from a recognized school with a major in medical records administration may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of one year (30 semester hours or its equivalent) of such education for six months of experience. V. Full-time, or equivalent part-time, clerical experience in medical records work in a medical records unit or department in a recognized hospital or clinic may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of two months of such experience for one month of the required experience. Special Requirements: None.
