Description:
A Mechanical Engineer at this client will participate in a wide array of activities supporting Research & Development, and Design & Development efforts. The ideal candidate should be a creative-minded individual with an interest in problem solving, and possess a good functional understanding of statics, strength of materials concepts, and the design/implementation of basic mechanical systems (mechanisms). This Mechanical Engineer may be involved in any/all stages of product life cycle, from inception through retirement, including testing and analysis activities, physical assembly/prototyping, production support, and technical support for currently fielded designs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Application of engineering principles for the design and development of new parts and products, as well as improvement and or modification of existing parts and products
• Performance of R&D activities for concept exploration and to identify feasibility of new products, and further determine whether those products fit within the capabilities and competencies of the company
• Create, or assist in the creation of, specification documents for parts, products, or systems
• Execution of Design and Development projects in accordance with Dillon Aero ISO quality procedure
• Establish and carry out Verification and Validation plans, activities, and/or test activities to ensure design success and suitability
• Coordinate, carry out, and/or participate in design review activities
• Prepare and complete documentation of reports and summaries for test activities, verification and validation activities, design reviews and other critical Design and Development events as they are carried out
• Creation of complete and thorough technical data packages of parts and assemblies to include Engineering/Manufacturing Drawings, Bill of Material documentation, documentation of manufacturing and assembly processes, and/or work instructions
• Coordinate and track the production of prototype parts/assemblies for testing, evaluation, and first article inspection activities
• Assess and survey of equipment and various platforms in the field to determine project feasibility
• Assess and review externally supplied technical data in the determination of project feasibility
• Participation in, and support of system integration activities and exercises in the field
• Interface with other departments (internal), as well as customers and vendors (external) to provide information for technical requests or questions
• Participate in the resolutions/dispositions, root-cause analyses and corrective actions of Quality issues that are technical in nature, including but not limited to:
• Non-conforming products
• Customer complaint/mechanical defects
• Supplier/vendor issues
• Production deficiencies
• Investigation of other product deficiencies, abnormalities and/or failures
• Participate in origination, review, and approval activities of Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s)
• Interface with Quality/Receiving Inspection personnel to help determine and establish critical inspection criteria for incoming parts and assemblies
• Interface with Programs Department personnel to assist in development of project/program schedules, resource allocation, general project/program tracking, task tracking, and management of technical deliverables.
• Interface with contracting personnel to assist and/or participate in the following:
• Technical review of internal and external contracts
• Development of project scopes, specifications, and statements of work
• Monitoring and ensuring fulfillment of contract obligations which pertain to engineering activities
• Interface with Marketing and Business Development personnel to review marketing and advertising materials and proposals for technical accuracy and/or feasibility
• Review of prepared quotations to ensure correct compilation and configuration of line items based on customer needs or intent
• Handling, transfer, and management of technical data/information in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and ITAR regulations, as well as in accordance with company policy regarding both customer-based and internal sensitive/confidential information
Minimum Job Requirements:
• Must not be: prohibited from handling or working in proximity to firearms based on laws and regulations outlined and enforced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives (BTAFE), or outlined in the Gun Control Act (GCA 1968), or outlined in the National Firearms Act (NFA 1934), or a “prohibited possessor” as outlined by Arizona State Statute (ARS 13-3101)
• Must be comfortable working around firearms
• Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other similar Engineering Field
• Demonstrable understanding of fundamental Mechanical Engineering concepts
• 3+ years of experience as an engineer in a related field/industry
• Experience and proficiency with common hand tools
• Demonstrable proficiency, and 1+ years of experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology
• 8+ years of experience as an engineer in military and defense related industry or fields
• Demonstrable proficiency, and 5+ years of experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software
• Demonstrable proficiency and experience with SolidWorks EPDM (product data management) software
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Software: Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
• Familiarity with, and ability to read, understand, and create engineering/mechanical drawings in accordance with ANSI Y-14 Drafting Standards
• Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards and Practices
• Strong knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes, and materials science
• Working knowledge and understanding of machine design principles, kinematics, statics, dynamics, and finite element analysis
• Familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration Airworthiness Standards: FAR Part 27 and Part 29
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 Environmental Test Standards
• Basic knowledge and understanding of firearm mechanics
• Ability to function effectively as an individual and within a team environment
