Description:
A company in West Michigan that repairs and rebuilds press machines is looking for a mechanical engineer to support their team. This individual will be responsible for determining the route-cause of failure of equipment, parts or systems. (What do we need to do? How do we need to fix it?) Troubleshooting, analysis and repairing of machines/parts/systems will be done on a case by case basis based on customer requests. Mechanical Engineer will spend majority of time in the office and will spend 0-25% of their time actually on the floor being hands on.
Troubleshoot machines, parts, systems.
Discuss issues with customers and identify route-cause of failure
Update prints and BOMs for manufacturing to ensure accuracy of information
Create guidelines and testing protocols on what manufacturing needs to do in order to fully analyze failures
Communicate with field service technicians to ensure they have information needed to inspect, repair, rebuild or modify equipment, machines or parts.
Tear apart / spec machines, parts or systems.
Discuss with customers complaints and then what tests/indicators were found during the investigation.
Example: A customer sent back a system that was connected to a larger machine in order to be repaired. Before the field service team and engineering tore it apart they performed a series of tests to see if the system was operating in a way that it was intended to and identify where the system was failing. After investigating the system the engineering team found that the system was operating as needed, but the route-cause of the part not working was the machine that it was attached to not correctly communicating to the part/system.
