JOB REQUIREMENTS: General Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer positionworking for a rapidly growing custom automation company buildingmachines for the Life Sciences industry. Responsibility includesdesigning automation (assemblies and sub-assemblies), fixtures, andprototypes, performing equipment debugging, supporting applications,interfacing with customers to understand requirements, designing tosafety standards, and applying mechanical engineering principles to theimplementation of automation. This role can have an estimated 15%travel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes, but is notlimited to: Design automation (assemblies and subassemblies), retrofits,fixtures, and prototypes. Interface with customers to understand systemrequirements and resolve design issues encountered. Document customerrequirements to capture design intent and develop designs thatincorporate said intent. Document and maintain revisions to existingautomated systems. Work with team members to create integrated designbetween multiple stations and designers on large machines. Incorporateproven, readily available technology into design based on customer orproject requirements. Identify correct motors, actuators, slides,heaters, grippers, and electrical components for specific designapplication. Update Test Plan to capture design requirements thatcommissioning will use to test the machine according to User RequirementSpecifications. Design automation to OSHA and NFPA standards. Mitigateoperator risk of machine operation, usage, maintenance, or in machinefailure during design. Use safety sensors in critical areas to ensureoperator and machine safety. Anticipate possible failure modes ofmachine operation that cause harm to the operator, machine, product, orenvironment and alter the design to eliminate or minimize it. Createdrawings with detailing of parts and assemblies including dimensions,callouts, tolerances, and material specifications. Creates comprehensivebuild plans for the mechanical assemblers to accurately assemble/buildto print. Develop and release bill of materials including stock materialand commercials to purchasing. Communicate to Fabrication criticalfeatures, dimensions, materials, and tolerances. Evaluate andtroubleshoot automation when problems arise during commissioning andpropose recommendations for resolving equipment issues. Act as atechnical mechanical design resource/support for company sales staff.Support applications by providing automation concepts and conceptdrawings in preparation of estimates and quotes. Stay current in newdevelopments within industries served. Keeps informed of newapplications and methods to improve systems or products. Observe allsafety rules, applicable regulations, and relevant ISO standards.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Bachelor\'s degree inMechanical Engineering or comparable knowledge/experience preferred. 5years\' experience is preferred. Strong and demonstrated mechanicaldesign aptitude and skilled in 2D (AutoCAD). 3D CAD SolidWorks PDMexperience preferred. Strong preference for prior automation designexperience. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a highdegree of accuracy and attention to detail. Proven experience workingeffectively in a team environment. Requires excellent oral and writtencommunication skills to communicate effectively with customers, vendors,and employees. Working knowledge of all MS Office applications. Abilityto read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, assemblyplans, and other manufacturing instructions. Ability to work withcomplex mathematical concepts.
