Seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual to help build Applied Materials’ Semiconductor Products Group’s (SPG’s) university R&D program portfolio and manage the technical execution of these programs. Applied Material’s Innovation and Commercialization Network and future EPIC Center will provide strong foundations to speed the commercialization of university R&D that aligns with semiconductor industry requirements, and this position will be at the technical heart of this need.
Key Responsibilities
Adeptly work across SPG business units and with SPG business development partners to source, prioritize, and drive closure of strategic R&D partnership programs with universities, research institutes and/or consortia that are aligned with Applied Materials’ and the semiconductor industry’s technology roadmaps,
Manage and/or track technical execution of strategic Applied Materials’ R&D partnership programs with universities, research institutes and/or consortia, which leverage existing facilities and/or future facilities such as Applied Materials’ EPIC Center.
Support raising both internal and external funding for such R&D programs, and manage related budgets.
The candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a group, and must be able to interface effectively and collaboratively in a highly matrixed internal environment as well as with external R&D partners and stakeholders.
Support creation and management of related internal productivity tools
Qualifications
Strong connections and technology track record across semiconductor R&D ecosystem including equipment and device companies, universities, research institutes and consortia.
15+ years of total professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility, with proven track record in technical and business leadership roles in semiconductor materials processing, process integration and/or device technology.
Highly motivated, high impact, and energetic self-starter who is passionate about R&D partnerships and win-win collaborations, and can thrive in a high performance, results-driven environment.
Strong technical and market knowledge of leading edge semiconductor materials processing, equipment and device process integration and related markets and technologies.
Strong communications skills are needed, especially with highly technical subject material. Outstanding technical and business presentation preparation and delivery skills for audiences that includes executives, R&D partners, and customers
The ideal candidate will have an external view of technology trends, and the competitive landscape. They will possess strategic thinking and a technology vision to identify critical market transitions, even in areas which require new learning.
Proven track record of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams spanning technology, engineering, business development, marketing, legal and finance.
Global or multi-national semiconductor technology business experience required
Technical/Scientific PhD or equivalent in field related to semiconductor materials, device process integration and/or device physics.
Silicon Valley location strongly preferred, remote/hybrid work will be considered.
Must be willing to travel up to approximately 25% (mostly domestic).

U.S. Salary Range:
$216,000.00 - $297,000.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
