Job Description:
The Medical Director with supervision of the associated clinical specialties and service line specific medical directors within their scope serves as a physician leader for the care site within Intermountain Health. The Medical Director will report to the care site Chief Medical Officer or Associate Chief Medical Officer.

This role will have collaborative accountability for the effective implementation of the operating model, including quality and clinical care models; professional demeanor and presentations; professional proposals and business plans for the associated specialties.
Leadership
Lead Physician and APPs and others in collaborations and implement care models that best meet the patient needs and the fundamentals of extraordinary care.
Ensure that evidence-based clinical care standards, in partnership with the Clinical Programs, are established and effectively implemented within the care site for appropriate caregivers.
Lead implementation of clinical best practices and programmatic improvements as supported by the Clinical Excellence team.
Set the culture of team-based care and develop standards and processes to optimize high- functioning clinical care teams.
Create an environment that maximizes the engagement and professional satisfaction of physicians and APPs.
Build and foster physician and APP alignment across the service line/department.
Collaborate with physician and clinical caregiver recruitment, retention, and professional development.
Intermountain Operating Model and KPIs
Lead quality improvement focused programmatic development in collaboration with the CMO.
Assist in development and implementation of departmental KPIs in alignment with the IOM.
Direct oversight of departmental process improvement with responsibility for leading to achievements of goals.
Work collaboratively in partnership with operational, nursing, and clinical leadership.
Align practices with operational efficiency and productivity across the department/service line.
Provide leadership, oversight, and support for the development of a culture of high reliability and Just Culture identify opportunities, build relationships, and execute strategies to drive the performance and measured improvement of the service line/unit/department.
Work collaboratively with the CMO and ACMO as well as Service Line Executive Lead in coordination of support services including Clinical Programs, Clinical Shared Services, Research, Medical Education, and Clinical Excellence.
Partner with the CMO to ensure seamless coordination of the services and clinical programs across the care continuum.
Participate in regional and enterprise collaboratives and councils in support of the specialty specific programs and initiatives.
Provide care site representation in specialty specific consultation as requested by DTS or other system operational units.
Stewardship
Work collaboratively with departmental director(s) to optimize management of cost controls and efficiencies.
Physician Partnership and Support:
Meet regularly with leadership to develop strong relationships with providers and to discuss information that is essential to the successful performance of the unit(s)/department.
Participate in the care site Medical Director Council.
Minimum Requirements
MD or DO with ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in a relevant specialty.
Active Medical Licensure
Minimum three years of clinical experience in relevant specialty and experience in leading successful quality improvement projects within the clinical setting.
Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Three years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
