  Join HII Marine Services Operations (MSO) in Chesapeake, VA as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve. MSO trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected Master Tradesperson 2 - Electrician candidate will support MSO, working closely with our skilled trades teams, on surface ships, utilizing various tools of the trade, removing, installing and upgrading industrial systems and equipment. The selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad, for durations up to 75% of the time when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem is provided, based on location, when on travel assignments and travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. Weekend and/or overtime hours required depending on contract awards and support required as per trade/skill set.

  Essential Job Responsibilities

  Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with company values.

  Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.

  Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.

  Meet standards on various contracts with Naval Surface Warfare Center and others.

  Remove, plan, execute, install, remove and modify electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners and equipment aboard naval vessels.

  Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections on existing and new equipment and existing equipment for a complete installation.

  Complete Quality documents necessary for reporting and verification of the work performed.

  Use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, NAVSEA Drawings, schematics, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

  Schedule, report and brief team leads and senior management.

  Perform duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

  Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Must be a U.S. citizen.

  Must have High School diploma or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.

  Must have experience working in a team environment.

  Must have experience with troubleshooting, maintaining, installing and repairing electrical distribution systems and its associated equipment and cabling.

  Must have experience with cable removal and installation including the proper methods of opening and securing various types of cable penetrations.

  Must be able to read electrical drawings and schematics.

  Must be familiar with the proper and safe usage of multimeters and meggers.

  Must be able to accurately communicate with Team Leads and co-workers regarding the technical aspects of the work being performed.

  Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, and maintain clearance level throughout employment.

  Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.

  Must be able to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking.

  Must provide hand tools per trades designation.

  Preferred Requirements

  Shipboard experience is preferred.

  Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

  Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance preferred.

  OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.

  Physical Requirements

  Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
