Managing Director of of Investments
Managing Director is the most senior position within the Investment Office reporting to the Chief Investment Officer. A Managing Director serves as a generalist member of the team with specialist responsibilities in assigned asset classes and broad overall portfolio knowledge and input. A Managing Director is integral to the management of System assets and to fulfilling the Office s overall responsibilities. A Managing Director is a seasoned and passionate investor, has a sincere interest in the non-profit sector, and demonstrates an innate sense of responsibility with regards to representing RWJBarnabas Health.
A Managing Director collaborates with the CIO to develop and implement investment strategy and risk management frameworks for his or her assigned asset classes. He or she oversees and participates in analytical work within assigned asset classes and, in conjunction with his or her support team, is responsible for recommending to the CIO strategy, structure, and specific investments within the assigned asset classes. The Managing Director provides guidance, training, and mentorship to more junior team members.
Specific Job Functions:
Collaborate with the CIO to devise and implement investment strategy and asset class structure within assigned asset classes.
Maintain strong asset class universe knowledge with robust historical knowledge.
Oversee and participate with more junior staff as they perform investment manager sourcing and due diligence, and monitoring across assigned asset classes.
Monitor assigned asset class portfolios and investments, evaluate performance, and recommend rebalancing or termination actions as required to the CIO.
Review and communicate to team risks taken within the portfolios and their contribution to total fund risk.
Monitor and evaluate performance against return objectives.
Keep CIO apprised of all asset class work and manager developments.
Execute / oversee all analytical work within assigned asset classes. Maintain strong understanding of portfolio exposures and communicate then to Investment team.
Create and present manager and portfolio research to the Investment Committee as directed by the CIO.
Conduct ad-hoc studies and projects such as creating position papers on various asset classes, investment strategies, investment managers, etc., as required by the CIO.
Inspire a team-oriented, cooperative spirit, providing mentorship and development opportunities for the more junior team including delegating and involving staff in high-level discussions, research, and analysis.
Requirements:
At least 15 years of relevant investment experience. Relevant experience can include work at a hospital system, endowment, foundation, or similar non-profit, plan sponsor, family office, or asset management firm. This experience must include asset management oversight of a portfolio of managers including the selection of external investment managers.
The Managing Director will possess deep institutional investment management experience and a demonstrated and relevant track record of achievement.
The Managing Director will have significant knowledge of his or her assigned asset classes including a strong understanding of leading managers and their investment processes, operations and compliance protocols, and history.
The Managing Director will be adept at communicating complex topics to a variety of audiences including Investment Office colleagues, Investment Committee members, Hospital constituents, and peers. Ability to communicate well and work productively with the Investment Committee is critical.
The Managing Director will be proactive with his or her analyses, researching topics that may be useful for his or her asset class or broader portfolio. The Managing Director will communicate thoughts and ideas to the Investment Office team.
The Managing Director will maintain relationships with senior individuals throughout the industry in order to keep abreast of important, sometimes intangible developments that could impact portfolio holdings. The Managing Director will travel to meet managers and attend conferences.
The Managing Director will be a high-impact player, making an immediate, positive impression in any business situation, and have the ability to develop and leverage relationships across a range of professionals.
