PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Director of Infrastructure and Research Computing, the Manager of Network Services, leading the Network Services team, is pivotal in driving the network infrastructure's design, implementation, and maintenance. This role ensures the network delivers high performance, reliability, and security, aligning closely with the organization's strategic objectives.We are seeking a Network Services Manager with data center experience, supporting research computing, and handling emergency operations. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Research Computing and is critical for the strategic planning, development, and maintenance of our network infrastructure. The successful applicant will lead the Network Services team, focusing on ensuring our network infrastructure is highly efficient, reliable, and secure. This role demands a professional who can effectively translate the organization's strategic goals into practical technological solutions, promoting the institution's progress with dedication and expertise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Area 1: University Networks and Data Center Management
Percent Effort: 35%
Manage wired and wireless networks, data center, network security architecture, and Internet/WAN connectivity.
Develop systems to support the technological needs of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
Assist in designing and managing IT service delivery processes, monitoring operational performance, and applying continuous improvement strategies.
Provide advanced technical support for significant projects and operations, acting as a technical consultant to staff.
Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders, customers, and vendors.
Functional Area 2: People and Resource Management
Percent Effort: 25%
Lead and mentor the network services team, managing HR processes, professional development, and performance evaluations.
Oversee budget and resource planning to achieve departmental objectives.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures, set team goals, and ensure effective communication within and outside the department.
Utilize project management techniques for planning, submitting, executing, and completing projects efficiently, including risk management and budgeting.
Functional Area 3: Strategic Planning:
Percent Effort: 20%
Keep informed about the latest developments in network architecture, security, data center, Wi-Fi, and emerging technologies.
Represent the department in university committees and groups, contributing to strategic planning and goal setting.
Collaborate with the Director and CIO on projects aligning with the university's strategic direction.
Conduct network capacity planning and improvement exercises, ensuring the network meets current and future requirements.
Functional Area 4: Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
Percent Effort: 15%
Oversee the health and welfare of the data center and associated networks, ensuring operational credibility through effective disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans, conducting regular assessments to evaluate their effectiveness.
Stay informed on the latest trends and best practices in IT security, disaster recovery, and business continuity to continually enhance plan robustness and responsiveness.
Ensure that the disaster recovery and business continuity plans are aligned with the overall strategic objectives of the organization, guaranteeing the resilience and stability of data center operations and network services.

Percent Effort: 5%
May require availability to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Network Administration, Cyber Security, or related field.
Minimum five years of relevant network administration experience.
Additional experience may be used as a substitution for the minimum education requirement.
High School Diploma and 9 years of related experience.
Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Network Administration, Cyber Security and 7 years of related experience.
Understanding of network security principles and best practices.
Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
Hands-on experience with network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Experience with emergency IT operations and disaster recovery strategies.
Proficient in applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and network diagramming.
Effective communication skills, capable of explaining complex technology to non-technical audiences.
WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE
Expertise in Cisco routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, and telephony.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Experience with research computing networking needs (HPC/AI) and large data center operations.
Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or equivalent.
Strong leadership, team-building, team management skills, and strategic planning skills.
Advanced experience in network design and architecture for supporting research and academic computing needs.
Advanced networking certifications (e.g., CCIE).
Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
Familiarity with IT industry trends, security regulations.
Excellent multitasking, communication, and organizational abilities.
