  Maintenance Shop Manager

  Role Overview

  The Maintenance Manager will report to the General Manager and oversee the fleet maintenance program to ensure safe and effective vehicle upkeep. A successful person in this position will have experience acting as adviser to upper management on potential issues with extensive experience in managing and producing reports. This person will have experience as a supervisor of supervisors and provider of guidance to technicians to ensure operational efficiency. The salary for this opportunity is $75,000-$82,000 (DOE).

  Responsibilities:

  Schedules employees for the department; ensures the effective supervision of mechanics and other shop workers; may administer collective bargaining agreement provisions

  Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel

  Coordinates work performed by outside vendors

  Oversees the development of efficient repair schedules; reviews repair cost estimates

  Approves priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations

  Helps to ensure that company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently

  Controls and monitors inventory

  Ensures that all vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and properly working

  Develops and implements safety policies and procedures for the department; maintains a safe working environment

  Participates in the development and administration of the operational budget

  Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods

  Ensures that property, grounds, and facilities are clean and well organized

  Additional responsibilities:

  Works closely with locations general manager, keeping them informed daily

  Supervises maintenance shop staff on multiple shifts.

  Responsible for working with dispatch for fleet pullouts.

  Daily hold list monitoring, adheres to 20% spare ratios

  Planning and goal setting in preventative maintenance programs.

  Insures all required preventive maintenance requirements are adhered to.

  Performs 100% Re-rack inspections on all preventive maintenance performed

  Monitors the daily driver inspection reports. (DVIR).

  Advises Operations of anomalies that may arise.

  Instructs mechanics in proper diagnosis of failures and correct repair practices.

  Reviews all defects identified during the preventive maintenance insure thatthere is no deferred maintenance. Repairs must be completed before the bus leaves the shop.

  Uses electronic diagnostic tools and computer software to assist in the troubleshooting and repair of heavy duty trucks, engine, transmission, air brake system, electrical, cooling, exhaust systems and HVAC systems.

  Other duties required, as assigned.

  Qualification

  High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required

  The ability to obtain a CDL Class B with passenger and airbrake endorsements (Onsite CDL training available)

  7 years or more of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy-duty automotive and transit equipment, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience

  ASE certifications required or able to obtain within 180 days.

  Good written and oral communication skills

  Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles

  Familiarity with laws/regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities

  Ability to read, interpret, and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and other mechanical and/or electrical diagrams

  Ability to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence - Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details

  Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings Pre-Employment

  Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

  Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
