Job Summary/Basic Function:
This role will work proactively with researchers across Boise State inthe technology transfer and commercialization process with a primaryfocus on translating Boise State research in order to increase licensingand collaborative relationships with commercialization partners for thebenefit of the university community and the citizens of Idaho. Thisposition is hybrid-eligible with the expectation of working on campus inBoise, Idaho 2-3 days per week.
Department Overview:
The Office of Technology Transfer supports research activities andmanages industry relations and intellectual property commercializationfor the university. The office is responsible for the assessment,protection, development, and marketing of new inventions for commercialuse and facilitates the internal and external relationships thatcontribute to the process. The office also supports the advancement ofinnovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development programs andinitiatives on campus. We are seeking a Licensing Associate to supportthe advancement of the Office of Technology Transfers goals and BoiseState University\'s Blueprint for Success.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and putit into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional fieldwith limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the fullrange of responsibilities within the function; requires deep jobknowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combinedwith experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems facedare difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diversescope and determines solutions. May manage programs that includeformulating strategies and administering policies, processes, andresources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences othersregarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
95% of the Time the Position must:
Evaluate invention disclosures, conduct prior art searches, patentlandscape analysis, recommend patenting strategies, developcommercialization plans, and conduct market research on existing anddisclosed technologies;Act as the primary liaison to university faculty/staff, and theirresearch, in the technology transfer process and advise the same onthe technology commercialization process;Manage patent filings, copyright, and trademark registrations incollaboration with the inventors, authors, and outside counsel;Draft marketing collateral, develop and execute marketing strategiesand plans that maximize the commercial and public benefit of thetechnology on behalf of the university;Actively market university technology to prospective licensees,directly and through web and third-party channels, capable ofbringing the inventions to market;Identify and evaluate potential licensees by assessing theircommercialization plans, available resources, competencies, andcommitment to the technology;Build and manage strong relationshi s with corporate partners,entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists, acquire feedback on thecommercial potential of Boise State technologies to further informresearch and development plans and investment decisions;Assist with the drafting and negotiation of license terms, options,license agreements, collaborative agreements, non-disclosureagreements, and material transfer agreements;Advocate for and support the university innovation ecosystem throughentrepreneurial program development, and startup support, and bringinternal and external awareness of OTT\'s activities.5% of the Time the Position must:

Strong working knowledge of intellectual property and contract law andindustry-standard licenses including royalty rates and licensestructures.
Experience directly relevant to evaluating the market potential ofearly-stage inventions and identifying commercial potential.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships withfaculty/staff researchers and interact effectively and productively withindustry.
Experience in contract negotiations with the ability to secure marketrate license terms.
