What We Want
The Library Specialist I will be responsible for assisting in providing scanning and quality control activities for the Libraries’ reformatted content. This position will perform image correction and digitization activities. In addition, they will assist in maintaining project workflow and responding to resources questions for the Preservation Unit. What You Need to Know
Starting Salary: $15.85 per hour
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of related library, office or customer service experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items
Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores
Knowledge of email, spreadsheet applications and library online research database searches and/or processing
Good interpersonal skills
Attention to detail
Reliable attendance
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience with digital photography and/or using digitization equipment
Previous team leader or supervisory experience
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and determine project urgency
Ability to maintain a positive, engaged attitude while performing repetitive tasks
Willingness to learn new software and methodologies
Responsibilities:
Quality Control: Assists with quality assurance and quality control activities for digital images for the Libraries digital collections. Acts as resource and answers questions or resolves scanning issues with student employees on digitization projects. Guides the student employees on the scanning of Library materials. Trains student employees on scanning equipment and software. Performs routine/standard adjustments/corrections of digital images (e.g. crop, align, tone/color corrections, etc.) to ensure quality.
Project Workflow: Assists with maintaining scanning project workflows and tracks progress. Assigns daily tasks and schedules student time on various scanners to maximize scanner usage, workflow efficiency and time availability for digitization projects. Creates and maintains documentation .
Student Supervision: Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, evaluates, processes timesheets and directs workflow.
Digitization: Assists with scanning activities on various types of library and archival materials. Maintains digitization procedures and capabilities using all of the unit's digitization equipment in accordance with established standards and p erforms other duties as assigned.
