Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Farish Recreation Area, CO . This position does not include benefits. Responsibilities Assist the Facility Manager in the management and operation of the 655 acre Farish Recreation Area, located 42 miles from the Air Force Academy. Assists manager in monitoring patron usage of the recreation area, ensuring that authorized personnel are using the facilities and that compliance with use, safety, fire prevention and sanitation rules are followed. Collects, accounts for and ensures safeguarding of monies. Distributes and balances workload among employees during the absence of the manager. Observes work in progress, production, and adherence to quality and safety standards. Provides input on performance, progress and disciplinary problems. Assists in training new employees. During the absence of the manager, resolves customer complaints and other day-to-day operational issues and elevates unresolved employee complaints to supervisor. Issues rental equipment, checks equipment for damage and instructs patrons on the proper use of the equipment. Assists with maintenance, repair and cleaning of all recreation equipment issued. Assists in ordering and storing supplies, equipment and resale items. Assists in conducting equipment inventories and ensures the security of all equipment and property. Sells and issues USAFA fishing permits in accordance with USAFA Natural Resources, which includes explaining pertinent rules and regulations. During the absence of the manager, prepares daily cash reports and deposits on a daily basis. Activates emergency generator(s) in the event of power a failure. Assists in accomplishing emergency and self-help maintenance and repair work. May operate a variety of vehicular equipment including a farm tractor and 1 Ton pickup truck with snow plow. Occasionally takes high ranking guests on a tour of the facilities and must be able to deal with all levels of Farish guests. Qualifying Experience: Must have working experience or knowledge of the recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures as related to the particular activity in which they are assigned. Progressively responsible experience in clerical duties in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, or other processing of cash items when this includes (1) direct handling of cash items and, (2) use of cash accountability control methods. Experience making reservations is required. Applicant must have computer skills to include MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Applicant must have knowledge of safety, fire, security policies and regulations. Applicant must have some familiarity with hazardous materials handling regulations and procedures. Applicant must have a basic knowledge of facility maintenance (i.e., carpentry, electrical, plumbing) and minor vehicle maintenance. Applicant must be able to use hand/power tools and chainsaws. Applicant must have some experience with wildlife and natural resources management. Applicant must have a basic knowledge of proper protocol and good interpersonal communication skills. Applicant must be able to operate a variety of vehicular equipment (i.e., farm tractor, pickup truck with snowplow, etc.) and must be able to obtain a valid military driver's license within 90 days of employment. Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use . Must be able to interpret and apply regulations and able to work under pressure. Applicant must obtain a training certificate for AF hazardous materials handlers within 6 months. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English both in person and over the phone is required. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
