The DNR is currently seeking to fill one (1) Seasonal Part Time 80% Parks and Trails Associate position at Flandrau State Park near New Ulm, MN. Work hours and days vary, and they include evenings, holidays, and weekends. This position is anticipated to work onsite from mid-January through mid-November annually.
This position exists to perform Night Security officer duties, sell vehicle permits, register campers, sell nature store merchandise, operate the campground reservation system, provide information and other public services to park users and to perform routine park maintenance, operational and custodial tasks.
Responsibilities include:
Perform park security so that park visitors and state park property and resources are protected from unsafe conditions, illegal acts, or other dangerous or damaging situations.
Sell park vehicle permits, merchandise, and consumables, register campers, and collect fees.
Provide information to the public by giving verbal directions and handing out information on rules and regulations, facilities, and activities available in the park and surrounding area.
Provide communication with park personnel and keep supervisors informed.
Building and facility maintenance tasks.
Maintain and assist in the safe operation of the sand bottom swimming pond.
Clean and maintain buildings, grounds, and facilities as directed.
Maintain and do minor repairs on equipment, tools, and shop facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Customer service skills sufficient to create a positive customer experience by responding to questions, comments, and complaints in a helpful and courteous manner.
Communication skills sufficient to provide written and verbal information and instructions to customers and coworkers by way of phone calls, two-way radio, email, and face-to-face interactions.
Human relation skills sufficient to negotiate and resolve conflicts, cooperate with others, and work as a productive member of a team.
Ability and willingness to work alone at night, including in remote areas.
Technology skills sufficient to operate office equipment such as calculators, cash registers, POS systems, computers, printers, scanners, telephone systems, two-way radios, and other office equipment.
Arithmetic skills sufficient to accurately collect money for various fees, make correct change and maintain a record of transactions.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, and procedures, etc. sufficient to use materials/ chemicals correctly and safely.
Ability to maintain safe work habits, identify safety hazards, and participate in safety discussions.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year of customer service, hospitality, tourism, education, administrative, or retail sales experience.
Experience operating a point of sale (POS) system.
Knowledge of park rules, policies, facilities, and other local points of interest.
First Aid / CPR / AED or other emergency management training.
Ability to adjust schedule, tasks, and priorities when necessary to meet business needs.
Experience operating or maintaining swimming facilities, such as taking water quality readings.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.Applicants must have the ability to meet the physical requirements and work in the environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
