The Role

The Lead Planning Engineer will apply advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues. Leads the development, evaluation and implementation of new and innovative principles, processes and applications. Exercises considerable latitude in decision-making under limited consultative direction toward predetermined long-range targets.

The Main Responsibilities

Oversees network capacity trends to understand current network capacity concerns, solutions, costs, and recommendations; communicates concerns and issues to the leadership team to help them understand future actions, optimization, network augments, etc.

Ensures network capacity requirements are met with the highest quality and most efficient cost structure

Defines and implements a market level strategy that considers both shorter term capacity needs and long term (3-5 year) product and technology transformation.

Supports various cross-functional organizations in transport, Core Wave, Field Operations and Implementation, Custom Networks, AE, etc.

Prepares plans and specifications, to include gathering field data.

Ensures that the most feasible, practical and economical means to complete the work are utilized. Provides cost data to support capital planning and budgeting.

Monitors and controls project expenditures.

Oversees the installation/construction and testing of plant facilities.

Acts as primary consultant to leadership detailing the technical requirements and specifications necessary to obtain solutions.

May act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for peers.

Requires minimal direction and guidance.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required Qualifications:

Consulting Level Bachelor's degree. Typically with 8+ years of experience. 6+ years of experience with Master's Degree.

6+ years inside and outside plant experience in telecommunications with in-depth knowledge of ISP/OSP equipment and designs or the equivalent in training and experience

Experience with ArcGIS/PRO, AutoCAD and Google Earth

Demonstrated capacity to focus and deliver on objectives in a dynamic, multi-faceted, fast-paced environment

Exceptional ability to work effectively in groups with disparate priorities and operational targets

Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across organizational boundaries

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities including setting vision, accountability, integrity, humility, empathy, coaching, and mentoring

Strong data/economic analysis skills

Ability to create / analyze designs using geospatial tools

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Detail oriented with an intense focus on quality

Proven track record as adept and effective project manager

Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Access, Visio and SQL

Positive and professional attitude, and demeanor

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s in Business or MS in Computer Science or Engineering

Comprehensive knowledge of network topologies spanning the access, transport, and data portions of the network, including working knowledge of the features, functions, and applications

2-3 years’ experience with cost savings initiatives and capital budgeting

Lean/Six Sigma belt certification

Project Management experience with PMI certification

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

$94420 - $125890 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$99390 - $132510 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$104360 - $139140 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$109330 - $145770 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
