General Summary
This position works under limited supervision and is primarily responsible for coordinating, monitoring and supervising the activities of the team ensuring individual member goals are achieved in support of assigned team goals.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Manages the cycle counts and physical inventory.
Performs and manages all of the SAP transactions with responsibility of maintaining process records and associated clean-up.
Coordinates and executes the document control functions in Doc Box by maintaining procedures, process updates, forms and any other required documentation.
Participates in departmental meetings and safety programs ensuring any change is communicated and followed by the team.
Works with Supervisor to assess employee performance.
Schedules and assigns Operators and establishes priorities, communicates job expectations, and monitors/evaluates job results. Provides coaching follow-up for performance regarding safety, quality and productivity.
Works closely with Engineering and Maintenance on room design and equipment purchase/installation.
Coordinates capacity planning with Planning department and Supervisor to ensure customer needs are met.
Creates the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized work processes are followed, countermeasures implemented, and the area is compliant with safety requirements.
Investigates inventory discrepancies and manages sample and discard entries.
Ensures materials consumed, goods issued and confirmations are done correctly.
Establishes standards for training and records maintenance, writes procedures, coordinates training events and assists in training.
Actively seeks new opportunities to implement lean principles within the production process.
Manages department purchasing for supplies and small equipment.
Works with vendors on equipment preventative maintenance, service, and repairs.
Writes work orders and works with maintenance to schedule preventative maintenance and repairs.
Works with cross-functional teams, such as Product Management, Marketing, QA to aid in new product development and customer trials.
Acts as an active member during external audits and performs quality and GMP internal audits. Follows up on non-conformities.
Delivers departmental objectives through performance management of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and people.
Serves as back-up Operator as needed.
Serves as back-up Supervisor as needed.
Delegates duties and assigns work in absence of crew Supervisor and Leads.
Adheres to all GMP, including sanitary requirements, Safety, ISO and Standardized Work procedures.
Adheres to guidelines as set forth by religious dietary law certifications (Kosher and Halal).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to effectively communicate oral and written information and respond to questions from managers and other employees in a professional manner.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to manage conflict within a crew.
Fully trained in all production areas of responsibility.
Ability to read, follow, and train others on work instructions.
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to the production process.
Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs and ERP system (SAP preferred).
Know how to read and interpret process flow diagrams looking for potential improvements.
Possess working knowledge of continuous improvement principles and their application.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
Shows initiative to improve work processes or question the status quo.
Ability to operate a pallet walker and/or forklift.
Ability to use basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench) for assembly and disassembly of equipment.
These characteristics are normally acquired through a High School Diploma or GED with at least three years’ experience in a production environment.
Working Conditions
Working environment is a combination of office area and production unit. Working environment is a production unit averaging 55-65 ° F and includes frequent exposures to wet, humid, dusty, or loud conditions, moving machine parts, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. A company issued uniform is required to be worn along with personal protective equipment at all times. This can include coveralls, dust mask, hearing protection, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves, face mask/shield and safety shoes. Work may occur in small rooms with air lock compliance to avoid interdepartmental contamination. Can be required to work weekends, extended hours and first, second or third shift.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 55 lbs., and use hands to finger, handle objects, tools or controls. Repetitive bending and lifting of items to stack or dump is also required. Occasionally required to lift up to 100 lbs., assisted, scoop, kneel, or crouch and use foot/feet to operate machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
