About This Role:
Kiowa County is a rural community in southwest Kansas with a populationof 2,400. Highway 54/400 connects the county\'s three communities:Greensburg, Haviland, and Mullinville. All three communities are servedby the Kiowa County School District, a community hospital, grocerystore, and a state-of-the-art media center.
Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link betweenKansas State University and communities across Kansas. Agents arejointly responsible to the director of K-State Research and Extension(represented by a designated administrator) and the local extensionboard.
Kiowa County is currently hiring two new extension agents who will shareresponsibility for 4-H youth development and community vitalityprogramming. This is the perfect opportunity to start fresh and buildnew programming!
This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluationof research-based educational programming related to agriculture andnatural resources. Programming will be conducted with volunteers andextension colleagues on topics including: agronomic and livestockproduction; agricultural economics, management, and public policy;horticultural production and management; and natural resourcesconservation and environmental stewardship.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of research-basededucational programming related to agriculture and natural resources.Programming will be conducted with volunteers and extension colleagueson topics including: agronomic and livestock production; agriculturaleconomics, management, and public policy; horticultural production andmanagement; and natural resources conservation and environmentalstewardship.
Share leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation ofthe 4-H youth development program for school-aged youth in cooperationwith volunteers and extension colleagues. Programming will include butis not limited to: community clubs support, out-of-school programs,school enrichment, volunteer management, and outreach to create newprogram opportunities with existing and new community partners.
Share responsibility for community vitality programming that helps ourcommunities become better places to live, work, and play. Programmingwill strengthen social, civic, economic, and technological capacity ofcommunities through leadership development and civic engagement.
Successful extension programs require agents to:
Identify local needs and emerging issues related t K-State Researchand Extension\'s five Grand Challenges (water and natural resources;community vitality; health; developing tomorrow\'s leaders; andglobal food systems) by engaging with program development committeesand other community organizations and professionals.Design appropriate educational strategies to engage clientele.Strategies might include educational programming in acommunity-based setting; events and activities that provideexperiential learning opportunities; use of innovative technologies;individual educational consultations; and group facilitation.Collaborate with local partners to meet community and programmingneeds.Develop and implement strategies to serve diverse audiences and toensure K-State Research and Extension is an equal opportunityprovider of educational programming.Collect and communicate evidence of educational program impact.Cultivate expertise in a subject matter competency area by engagingas a member of a Program Focus Team.Pursue internal and external funding to support educational programming.
