The NOC Systems Administrator will support the implementation, maintenance, and operation of KBR’s monitoring system and supporting infrastructure, leveraging integrations with third-party systems, as well as developing and supporting automation. NOC personnel must develop a solid understanding of KBR’s products and processes and as part of growth in this role, must be keen to adapt, learn, and able to use experiences and initiative to resolve a broad range of problems and contribute to the growing success of the KBR Global NOC, inclusive of metrics such as reducing the time to resolve.
This Systems Administrator position supports a 24x7 Global Enterprise Network Operations Center team responsible for proactive monitoring and support of the KBR network infrastructure . This includes but not limited to a diverse range of systems: network devices, applications, services, servers, UPS’s, environmental sensors, and WAN / LAN availability.
Daily duties and key responsibilities:
Configure, deploy, optimize, monitor, and maintain the ScienceLogic monitoring platform for use across the organization
Work closely with other IT teams to implement new technologies and integrations as business requirements change
Develop and maintain documentation related to the ScienceLogic monitoring platform, integrations, and configurations
Maintain accurate documentation of architecture, processes, knowledge articles, and playbooks
Provide training and support to the NOC team and end-users on the use of the ScienceLogic monitoring platform
Continually evaluate and recommend improvements to the ScienceLogic monitoring platform, including but not limited to resource sizing/scaling, vendor suggestions, expanded capabilities, platform and module updates, and third-party integrations
Utilize out-of-box features and custom OID’s/MIB’s to expand KBR NOC’s monitoring capabilities (including SaaS and other cloud services)
Develop custom scripts and design custom automations to streamline tedious tasks
Participate in routine failover testing after-hours
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to performance, availability, and stability of the ScienceLogic platform
Collaborate with IT and network teams to identify and resolve network issues
Decommission legacy monitoring products
There may be scenarios where this role may be asked to assist the operations team with their responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Trouble ticket generation, management, response, and escalations
Participation in the Major Incident Process, such as reviewing communications prior to notification
Deployment and maintenance of network monitoring, analysis and reporting tools
Basic troubleshooting and fault analysis resolution, and/or escalation of software, application, hardware, security, and network issues
Support Add/Change/Deletes of configuration changes via the KBR change control management systems and processes
Qualification Requirements and Profile:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
Experience Level: 3+ years of experience in administration of monitoring platforms
Certifications: Network+, Security+ certified or equivalent level of knowledge
Special Requirements:
Must be a US Citizen
Experience with ScienceLogic administration required
Experience with ServiceNow and Solarwinds preferred
Able to participate in after-hours work as needed
Other:
Must be able to analyze problems and conduct effective fault diagnosis while working to resolve issues through resolution
Must have effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize work
Basic understanding level of virtualization technology as well as ability to use Microsoft Office products. Linux/UNIX skills ideal but not essential.
Basic level of experience of working on various types of network equipment in an ISP environment, a large NOC or other such company associated with networking
Self-motivator and clear communicator (written and verbal)
Capable of prioritizing and managing own workload
Capable of working/using own initiative with minimal supervision
Knowledge of scripting / programming languages such as python, PowerShell, SQL and familiarity with API calls
