　　Position in this function perform technical duties associated with the preparation of hispathological slides for Pathologist to review.

　　Primary Responsibilities:

　　Performs tissue processing, embedding, cutting and slide preparation

　　Capable of performing tissue description, dissection, and blocking for optimal diagnostic evaluation of specimens

　　Stains slides manually or by automated staining methods

　　Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems involving methodology, technique, and instrumentation utilization.

　　Performs maintenance and quality control on instruments as applicable

　　Monitors environmental conditions in the lab

　　Maintains a safe working environment

　　Monitors supply inventory

　　Maintains patient confidentiality

　　Actively supports and assists in implementation and monitoring of quality control and quality assurance policies

　　Attends required meetings and participates in professional development activities

　　Performs related work as required

　　Required Qualifications:

　　Associates degree in related science as approved by accrediting agency

　　NYS Histotechnician License or higher license

　　Knowledge of pathology laboratory procedures, equipment and standards

　　Knowledge of medical terminology related to the pathology laboratory

　　Knowledge of safety requirements to recognize hazardous conditions

　　Proven skill in performing all technical duties related to preparing histopathological slides

　　Proven skill in identifying and resolving technical problems

　　Proven skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

　　Preferred Qualification:

　　1+ years of experiencePhysical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Sitting for extended periods of time may occur. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 lbs. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.

　　Working Conditions: Exposure to toxic substances, communicable diseases, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a medical laboratory environment.

　　New York Residents Only: The hourly range for New York residents is $23.22 to $45.43 per hour.
