  Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will perform work on electrical distribution systems. You will interpret blueprints schematics, online diagrams, wiring diagrams, sketches, work orders, and complete service calls. You will operate a wide variety of high voltage electrical distribution system equipment including those utilizing air, sf6, oil, and solid insulation technologies. You will determine corrective actions for electric power-controlling equipment such as switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, switches and power generating equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications The purpose of this position is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the full performance level of the target grade (High Voltage Electrician WG-10) though a formal Apprenticeship Program. At the WG-02 level, you will be assigned to a journey worker who works with and instructs you in performing duties common to the trade in a safe, efficient manner. Detailed instructions are provided on new assignments along with close supervision and detailed review. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element, which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not meet this screen-out element for this position will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Following detailed instructions to repair high voltage electrical power-generating and distribution equipment (e.g., generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading manuals, circuit drawings, or diagrams to plan work sequences; 3) Using hand tools and test equipment of the trade in a safe manner. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires evening and weekend work. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent frequently lifts carries and set-up tools, material and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. This position requires bending stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods; working aloft on poles, at ground level, and in trenches or manholes. The incumbent is often required to work in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Good eye, hand, leg and body coordination is necessary when installing, repairing, and testing electrical equipment. Incumbent is required to work in confined spaces and in aerial platforms. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works predominately outdoors and is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. Works in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment and is subject to electrical shock from contact with high voltage lines. The Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and the danger of failing while working from ladders, poles, and high lift trucks. May work in hot or poorly ventilated or lighted areas. Exposed to noise hazards, high voltage, and heights and may be required to work around hazardous materials such as PCBs.
