HICAP Counselor
The Opportunity
The HICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program) provides counseling and information to Nassau County residents and their families that helps Medicare beneficiaries make the most of their Medicare benefits on Medicare health insurance.
Responsibilities
Provide telephone and in-person assistance to address inquiries from Medicare beneficiaries in Nassau County. Accurately complete the Beneficiary Contact Form for STARS entry.
Provide referrals to community agencies as appropriate
Assist Director, Sr Financial and HIICAP programs with developing monthly statistics for reporting.
Review data entry (STARS) forms from part-time staff and alert Director with any inconsistencies.
Learn the STARS software program to be able to assist Director with reporting.
Attend all statewide required monthly counselor meetings.
Attend all required trainings and pass the annual NYS Certification exam.
Qualifications
College Degree required.
Minimum of three years working in direct contact position with seniors and/or their families.
Intermediate computer skills working with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Valid New York State Driver's License required.
